Hailey Bieber Shows Her Ovarian Cyst “the Size of an Apple” - E! NEWS

Hailey Bieber is sharing a painful health update on social media.

The Rhode Beauty founder detailed a recent health challenge alongside an image posted Nov. 28 to her Instagram Stories. Hailey is seen lifting up her sweatshirt to show her torso, though she clarified that the inflated area was "not a baby."

"I have a cyst on my ovary the size of an apple," she wrote on her Instagram Stories. "I don't have endometriosis or PCOS but I have gotten an ovarian cyst a few times and it's never fun."

Endometriosis, according to the Mayo Clinic, occurs when uterus tissue grows outside the uterus, while PCOS—Polycystic ovary syndrome—is the development of cysts along the outer edge of the ovary. In Hailey's case, she didn't provide information about the nature of her cyst, but instead detailed how it makes her feel.

Clarence Gilyard Jr, ‘Die Hard,’ ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ Actor and University Professor, Dies at 66 - Yahoo Entertainment

Clarence Gilyard Jr., a prolific actor best known for his pivotal, series-long role on “Walker, Texas Ranger” and for his scene stealing turn as Theo, the heist crew’s hacker in “Die Hard,” died Monday following a long illness. He was 66.

In addition to his acclaimed career, Gilyard was a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. “Professor Gilyard was a beacon of light and strength for everyone around him. Whenever we asked him how he was, he would cheerfully declare that he was ‘Blessed!’ But we are truly the ones who were blessed to be his colleagues and students for so many years. We love you and will miss you dearly, Professor G!,” UNLV film chair Heather Addison said in a statement Monday.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal first reported the news.

Born in 1955 in Moses Lake, Washington, Gilyard eventually moved to California as a young man, where he stud.ied acting at California State University, Dominguez Hills. He began acting regularly in the late 1970s and early 1980s with roles in TV shows including “Diff’rent Strokes” and a main cast role during the final season of “Chips” in 1983.

In 1988 he played Theo, the hacker working for Hans Gruber’s heist crew — notably the only member of the crew to survive the film — in “Die Hard.” The next year he joined the cast of “Matlock” as private investigator Conrad McMasters, a role he played through 1993. It was in 1993 that he was cast as James “Jimmy” Trivette, Walker’s fellow ranger and best friend. He remained on the show through its entire run until the show ended in 2001, and returned for a “Walker” TV movie in 2005.

Other notable film and television roles include “The Karate Kid Part II,” and a major role in the first two “Left Behind” films.

Gilyard began teaching college after Walker ended, and at the time of his death taught theater at UNLV’s College of Fine Arts. He was married twice and had 6 children.

Helena Bonham Carter Rails Against Cancel Culture, Defends J.K. Rowling and “Vindicated” Johnny Depp - Hollywood Reporter

Helena Bonham Carter is making it quite clear how she feels about so-called cancel culture, along with sharing her thoughts on such embattled public figures as Johnny Depp and J.K. Rowling.

During an interview with The Times that published online Saturday, Bonham Carter criticized the notion that someone’s personal life should impact their career: “Do you ban a genius for their sexual practices? There would be millions of people who if you looked closely enough at their personal life you would disqualify them. You can’t ban people. I hate cancel culture. It has become quite hysterical and there’s a kind of witch hunt and a lack of understanding.”

Related Stories

When asked whether there is a path to redemption for such Hollywood notables, the Oscar-nominated actress said, “I don’t think there is for someone like Kevin Spacey. And Johnny certainly went through it.”

In responding to a follow-up question specifically about Depp, who has co-starred with her in multiple films and is godfather to the two children she shares with former partner Tim Burton, Bonham Carter said she feels the Pirates of the Caribbean star is “completely vindicated” following his high-profile trial involving ex-wife Amber Heard. Bonham Carter added, “I think he’s fine now. Totally fine.”

When asked whether a Virginia jury awarding Depp $15 million in his defamation suit against Heard earlier this year was a sign of the #MeToo pendulum swinging back, Bonham Carter replied, “My view is that she got on that pendulum. That’s the problem with these things — that people will jump on the bandwagon because it’s the trend and to be the poster girl for it.”

During the trial, Depp denied ever striking Heard and accused her of lying about his alcohol and drug use. He and Bonham Carter have worked together in films including Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows.

The actress was also impassioned about the blowback that Harry Potter author Rowling has received over comments that have been criticized as transphobic. Bonham Carter played Bellatrix Lestrange in the four most recent Harry Potter films.

“It’s horrendous, a load of bollocks. I think she has been hounded,” Bonham Carter said about Rowling. “It’s been taken to the extreme, the judgmentalism of people. She’s allowed her opinion, particularly if she’s suffered abuse. Everybody carries their own history of trauma and forms their opinions from that trauma and you have to respect where people come from and their pain. You don’t all have to agree on everything — that would be insane and boring. She’s not meaning it aggressively, she’s just saying something out of her own experience.”

When asked about the film franchise’s stars — such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint — who have spoken out about Rowling’s remarks, Bonham Carter said, “Personally I feel they should let her have her opinions, but I think they’re very aware of protecting their own fan base and their generation.”

Tom Hollander and Leo Woodall React to That Shocking White Lotus Scene - E! NEWS

This article contains spoilers from the Nov. 27 episode of The White Lotus

Excuse us, we just need to pick our jaws up off the floor.

While we've come to expect the unexpected from The White Lotus, we were not prepared for what the Nov. 27 episode had in store.

After being woken up in the middle of the night, Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) stumbled into a separate room only to find Quentin (Tom Hollander) having sex with his nephew Jack (Leo Woodall).

Moments earlier, Jack arrived to Quentin's Palermo home from a date with Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) and said, "I have to do something for my uncle."

This was no small favor.

For the actors involved, the scene represented a bit of sordid gusto from White Lotus creator and writer Mike White.

"Tanya witnessing it, it's delicious and it makes you realize that he really has got a plan and the writer really is going somewhere," Hollander exclusively told E! News. "He hasn't lost his way with this story. It's very, very confident."

Jessie James Decker Slams ‘Unkind’ Criticism About Her Kids’ Abs: ‘Don’t Call’ Them ‘Strange’ - Yahoo Entertainment

Jessie James Decker Slams 'Unkind' Criticism About Her Kids’ Abs: 'Don't Call' Them 'Strange'
Jessie James Decker Andrew H. Walker/Shutterstock

During Jessie James Decker and husband Eric Decker’s post-Thanksgiving tropical vacation, the country singer was proud of her kids’ embracing their bodies on the beach.

“Vacation Decker styleđŸ’ȘđŸ„„đŸŒŽ,” James Decker, 34, captioned a Saturday, November 26, Instagram pic of daughter Vivianne, 8, and sons Eric Jr., 7, and Forrest, 4, posing together. The three little ones — whom the cookbook author shares with Decker, 35 — all wore swimsuits with their defined abs on display.

“I love these smiles. The strength. So in their bodies. Fun goals,” Selma Blair — who competed against the “Should Have Known Better” songstress on Dancing With the Stars season 31 — wrote via Instagram comment on Saturday.

While the likes of Julian Edelman, Kane Brown and DWTS partner Alan Bersten were also jealous of her kids’ toned physiques, James Decker was subject to social media criticism, as well.

“That doesn’t look right … Sorry, not sorry đŸ€·‍♀️,” one Instagram user replied before the Kittenish founder slammed the alleged concern.

“It’s a sad world we live in today when having healthy fit kids who are super active, play sports [and] build muscle naturally is ‘weird,’” James Decker responded.

Another social media troll similarly slammed Vivianne, Eric Jr. and Forrest’s respective abdominal muscles, calling them “strange.”

“From one mother to another. Please don’t call my children’s appearance strange just because they don’t look the way you think they should?” the Italy native wrote on Saturday. “It’s unkind ❤️.”

The Just Jessie author and the retired NFL star welcomed their three little ones in 2014, 2015 and 2018, respectively. The pair’s kids have since started following in the Minnesota native’s athletic footsteps, with Vivianne primarily focused on her gymnastics training and Eric Jr. interested in football. James Decker, for her part, mostly sees fitness training as a way to keep her energy up while raising her brood.

"I dread working out because it’s not my favorite thing to do,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in May 2021. “But man, as soon as it’s over I feel amazing and I’m so glad I did it! … I work out and lift because I want to feel good and have energy. I want to enjoy the foods I love, like pasta and bread and chocolate chip cookies. I drink water all day long and I try not to eat past 6:30 p.m. I take probiotics and fiber on a daily basis.”

'RHOA' alum Porsha Williams marries Simon Guobadia in Nigerian ceremony - Page Six

Porsha Williams is a Mrs. again!

The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum married Simon Guobadia in a Nigerian traditional native law and custom ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta on Friday, People reported.

Williams, who described the day as “a true fashion extravaganza,” had three outfit changes.

For the ceremony, she wore an over-the-top, deep red, princess-style wedding gown with feathers and gold embellishments by designer Lakimmy, along with an okuku, a headpiece with Benin coral beads.

It was the same dress the reality star, 41, accidentally showed over 2,000 of her Instagram followers while livestreaming earlier this month.

For the reception, she changed into two different gowns by designer Tabik: one in royal blue and one in gold.

The couple’s 250 guests — which included several Bravolebrities — wore traditional or formal Nigerian-inspired attire in purple and teal.

The ceremony was led by a spokesperson from each of their families, while traditional Benin singers and dancers performed. Guobadia, 57, is from Benin City in the Edo State of Nigeria.

For the reception, Williams said she wanted attendees to feel like they had “taken a flight and landed in Benin,” as the space was decorated with “beautiful colors of browns and rose golds and tans and creams.”

“The other thing I wanted was trees in the room,” she added. “I want[ed] it to feel like an inside/outside space, but luxurious.”

Williams and Guobadia also asked that their guests remain unplugged because they “want[ed] people to be in the moment.”

Though the “Pursuit of Porsha” author was “adamant” that the event honored the businessman’s roots, she made sure the food included southern staples like “fried lobster, steak and cornbread.”

According to People, the lovebirds will say “I do” in an American celebration on Saturday evening in front of 350 guests.

Fellow “RHOA” alums/stars Kandi Burruss, Kim Zolciak-Biermann, Cynthia Bailey, Drew Sidora and Monyetta Shaw are expected to attend the church ceremony, followed by a ball and after-party.

T.I. and wife Tiny Harris are also on the guest list.

“It’s our last marriage, OK? We belong together. That is it,” Williams, who was previously married to Kordell Stewart and engaged to Dennis McKinely, told the publication. “It’s a blessing to be able to find your person. It doesn’t happen often.”

Williams and McKinley share daughter Pilar Jhena (“PJ”), 3, while Guobadia has five kids — Quentin, Nicole, Christian, Benjamin and Ximena — from previous marriages.

The “Porsha’s Family Matters” star noted that she’s “absolutely” open to expanding her family with her new husband.

“I’ve always wanted to have four kids, so it’s a blessing that he has three younger ones that are at home a lot of the time, and then I have my Pilar,” she shared.

“But as far as me being able to experience having a child with him, I definitely want to explore that. I’m not sure how many that will include, but I definitely know it wouldn’t be more than two.”

The newlyweds got engaged in May 2021 after a month of dating. They met on Season 13 of “RHOA” when Guobadia was married to cast “friend” Falynn Pina.

Jennifer Lopez returns to social media to announce 'This Is Me...Now' - CNN

CNN  —

Jennifer Lopez has used the 20th anniversary of the release of her “This Is Me…Then” to announce an update.

“This Is Me…Now” will be her next project and reportedly “chronicles the emotional, spiritual and psychological journey that she has taken over the past two decades.”

Lopez’s social media had gone dark in recent days with much speculation that a big announcement was in the works.

“Featuring confessional songs, reflections on the trials of her past, upbeat celebrations of love with her signature powerhouse vocals, This Is Me…Now shines a spotlight on her tough childhood, unsuccessful relationships and the incredible emotional journey she has been on,” according to Rolling Stone, citing a press release.

The original album, “This Is Me…Then,” was released on November 25, 2002.

In a video posted on her verified social media, Lopez is shown morphing from the artist she was then to who she is today.

“This Was Me…Then” was dedicated to her then-fiance Ben Affleck. It featured her hit single “Jenny From the Block,” as well as a special song about Affleck, “Dear Ben.”

“This Is Me…Now” includes a track titled, “Dear Ben pt. ll.”

The new album was teased in Lopez’s recent Vogue interview in which the collection of songs was referred to “as a kind of bookend to This Is Me…Then, the album she released 20 years ago in the heady early days of her relationship with Affleck.”

“I’m not one of these tortured artists,” Lopez told Vogue. “Yes, I’ve lived with tremendous sadness, like anybody else, many, many times in my life, and pain. But when I make my best music or my best art is when I’m happy and full and feel lots of love.”

Lopez and Affleck are now married, almost 20 years after they first split as a couple.

North West documented the luxe festivities, which took place at her mom Kim Kardashian’s house, on her ever-chaotic TikTok account Thursday.

In addition to the usual gorgeous tablescape with an overwhelming spread, the Skims founder added a unique touch to her soiree — royal-family-style portraits.

Every attendee at Kim’s meal, which appeared to have included rarely seen Rob Kardashian, received a custom portrait; however, matriarch Kris Jenner was the only person to be depicted with a crown.

Both KhloĂ© Kardashian and Kylie Jenner were shown holding their newborn (and still-unnamed) sons — with concealed faces.

Notably missing on the gallery wall of portraits were the most recent Kardashian rejects: Kanye West, Scott Disick and Tristan Thompson.

Despite Thompson’s apparent absence from the festivities, he wasn’t too far away; he and Kim recently visited a Los Angeles juvenile detention facility to dine with young men for a “Friendsgiving.”

Although Kim, 42, had good intentions in sharing the emotional photos with her fans, she instead received backlash for spending time with KhloĂ© Kardashian’s philandering ex.

“Kim what we aren’t going to do is make Tristan the enemy and then try to give him his redemption arc . Blur his face out lol,” one follower commented.

Another hilariously chimed in, “I see they finally put Tristan in jail.”

Sources last told Page Six that KhloĂ©, 38, and Thompson, 31, only spoke when it came to co-parenting their kids after he impregnated Maralee Nichols while dating the Good American co-founder. But now it seems he’s successfully managed to atone for his sins, as he was also included in the family’s Halloween festivities.

A.J. Cook On "Criminal Minds: Evolution," Directing Her Sons, And The Props She Took Home With Her - BuzzFeed

THEN: JJ’s sons are played by your actual sons, Mekhai and Phoenix. What went into the decision to cast them instead of child actors?

A.J.: You know, it's the weirdest thing, isn't it? Like, it's so unique. And you know, I don't even really know how it happened. Well, with Mekhai, my firstborn, they had a scene with JJ, Will, and the baby. I think they just came to me and said, "Hey, how do you feel about using Mekhai for this?" And I was like, "Oh, okay. Sure!" It just sort of evolved from there. Then, he got that one episode, in Season 7, where he gets kidnapped — [Season 7, Episode 23: "Hit"] the bank heist episode. He was so cute. He did such a good job in it. And it sort of evolved even more from there. Then, I had another kid. And then, they asked, "Well, do you mind using Phoenix for that as well?"

It's been something that's really special for us as a family because I have my kids' lives documented in a way. And to have that, forever, is something that I'm grateful for. It's really special. To have them come back again, in the 2.0 version. I mean, this is something I think the fans are really gonna be blown away by because little Henry, he's not so little anymore. My son is 14, and he's 5'11". And he's got little muscles and stuff. It's almost like a timeline. He is our walking timeline for this show. It's so crazy. I think that'll be something that's really special for the fans who've watched it from the beginning and [have] seen these kids grow up.

Hulu's 'Welcome to Chippendales' looks a little under-dressed for success - CNN

CNN  —

Hulu has carved out an impressive niche of salacious fact-based limited series, including several with a true-crime hook. “Welcome to Chippendales” checks off those boxes, but in a less-appealing package that’s surprisingly lifeless, and even with its trashy selling points looks under-dressed for success.

The story begins with Indian immigrant Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani) who is introduced as a gas-station/quickie-mart attendant before he gambles his savings by opening a high-end backgammon club. It’s a colossal flop, but his fortunes shift when Paul Snider (Dan Stevens) and Playboy playmate Dorothy Stratten (Nicola Peltz Beckham) walk in, later dragging him to a gay bar, where Banerjee stumbles onto “a strip club … for women.”

After dismissing it as “The dumbest idea I’ve ever heard,” Snider joins in the effort, but he’s a lousy partner, and a grim fate awaits him and Stratten. But this is Banerjee’s story, and he finds the help he needs from choreographer Nick De Noia (“The White Lotus’” Murray Bartlett), who brings a more professional, slicker patina to the male dance revue, turning it into “an actual show.”

Instead of reveling in his success, though, Banerjee seethes over the fact that the media-friendly De Noia is getting most of the credit, a dynamic that isn’t helped by just how awkward and awful an interview Banerjee turns out to be. Even letting De Noia open a club in New York can’t stop Banerjee from insisting on trying to demonstrate who’s the boss, which will eventually lead to dire consequences before it’s over.

Banerjee’s can get away more with his impulsiveness and racism – highlighted by the way he approaches Black employees – in the late 1970s and ’80s, as well as plenty of freewheeling sex and drugs.

Nanjiani (who also produced) has already made strides beyond comedy in movies like “The Big Sick” and “Eternals,” but he makes the most of this straight dramatic role. Ultimately, though, “Chippendales” is defined by its trashier aspects, while its assortment of supporting players and their soap-opera problems too often feel as if they’re just killing time. That includes Annaleigh Ashford as Banerjee’s wife, who can’t get him to listen to good advice, and Juliette Lewis and Andrew Rannells as Nick’s friend and boyfriend.

In some respects, Hulu might be a victim of its own success, having set the bar high with Emmy-nominated productions like “Pam & Tommy,” “The Dropout” and “Dopesick.”

Grading on that curve, “Welcome to Chippendales” feels like a lightweight commodity, one of those ideas that looks great on paper and, despite its healthy serving of beefcake, not nearly as good in the flesh.

“Welcome to Chippendales” premieres November 22 on Hulu.

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Reveals Season 31 Winner - Deadline

Dancing with the Stars‘ first season on Disney+ has come to end! So much change has already been announced going into tonight’s season 31 finale. First, judge Len Goodman and Cheryl Burke have called it quits. Then, Disney gave Bob Chapek the heave-ho and rewarded Bob Iger with his old CEO seat. A desperate plea from the cheap seats, Mr. Iger: return the mirror ball to ABC! I think we can all agree that this streaming experiment has gone the way of the polka: no one wants Disney+ anywhere near the ballroom. Perhaps moving it back home to Mondays on ABC can be your next major decision after lowering the price for the Genie+ line-skipping service at the parks?

Speaking of redemptive acts, it’s time for the couples to redo their performances from the season.

Wayne Brady and Witney Carson. The game show host instinctively knew that he would be asked to redo the quickstep from week 6. Len Goodman implored Brady to improve his frame and show off his “boyish grin” while performing to “Higher and Higher” by Jackie Wilson. Brady showed signs of progress, but Goodman wasn’t completely satisfied. “I must say I thought your frame was stronger … however it needed a little more movement,” Goodman said. “You know I’m a fan of yours … I have to say what I say, it could have done with a little more flow.” Score: 36 out of 40

Shangela and Gleb Savchenko. With Bruno Tonioli as their mentor, the duo revisited their quickstep from week 2. Dressed in white top hats and crystal-encrusted silk costumes, the pair opened the show by bouncing about to “Queen Bee” by Rochelle Diamante — but Shangela missed a key step at the beginning that didn’t go unnoticed by the judges. “So many people inspire me but you excite me,” said Carrie Ann Inaba. “You have grown and that is what redemption round is about.” Score: 36 out of 40

The competition took a brief break to say goodbye to Burke, who announced Sunday that she’s leaving the show after 26 seasons. The two-time Mirror Ball champ danced the Argentine tango and samba to “Copacabana” with Pasha Pashkov and Louis Van Amstel before giving a final speech to the crowd. “This is my family, every single person that was part of this cast, every single person, thank you for believing in me,” she said. “Thank you for helping me find my voice. You guys have been part of my identity. Thank you for pushing me to be the greatest artist I could be.”

Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy. D’Amelio’s only competition was instructed by Derek Hough to revisit her Cha Cha from Bond night during week 3 of the competition. Dressed in the cutest little boa mini-skirt, Windey werked it to “I Like It” by Pete Rodriguez. “Gabby, you have a superpower of just embodying every dance. You were born to perform,” said Hough. “You definitely redeemed that Cha Cha. Well done.” Perfect Score

Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas. Does the frontrunner really need to redeem herself for a past performance? Apparently so: Inaba suggested a repeat of the jive from week 5 during Prom Night. And what a repeat it was: Dancing to “Grown” by Little Mix, D’Amelio positively gleamed while performing Ballas’ terrific choreography. “Charli that was remarkable,” said Inaba. “You have proven yourself so incredible this whole season. This is you, you just danced with your heart.” Perfect Score

Next up, the freestyle round.

Brady and Carson. The game show host channeled his best Bruno Mars in a mixup of “24K Magic” and “Get Up” by Ciara ft. Chamillionaire. It wasn’t his most impressive performance of the season — and he didn’t get to the do a back flip that he asked for in rehearsal — but he was pleased with his “perfect” cap off to the season. “It looks to me you have smash hit in your hands,” said Tonioli. “Honestly, you always perform like the greatest showman on the greatest show on TV.” Perfect score

D’Amelio and Ballas. The reality show star talked about how she stopped dancing after she internalized the hate and negativity from followers on TikTok. Then came DWTS, and she was transformed! She fell back in love with dancing. What a way to end her run in the ballroom: D’Amelio’s number with Ballas was a brilliant hodgepodge of all ballroom’s best — the waltz, the tango, the Quickstep, some tap dancing! — to “Us Again” by Pinar Toprak. Man, does Ballas deserves some bonus pay for returning this season. “I know what it’s like to lose the love of dance,” said a teared up Hough. “That was so powerful, the storytelling, the narrative, but more importantly you two, the connection.” Perfect Score

Shangela and Savchenko. The show’s first drag entertainer used the final rehearsal package to pay tribute to Savchenko and how supportive he was during the season. The two expressed their love for one another before embarking on the mother of all freestyles to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and “Call Me Mother” by RuPaul. Where to start? Shangela posing upstage on a sky-high podium before breaking into some rousing pop and lock? Savchenko embodying a new alter-ego named Natasha and bringing down the house? RuPaul, eat your heart out: drag has finally taken over the ballroom and DWTS is all the better for it. “For the first time in 31 seasons I forgot to vote because I was absolutely mesmerized by the whole thing,” said Goodman. “It had performance, it had entertainment.” Perfect Score

Windey and Chmerkovskiy. When he thinks of the Bachelorette, Chmerkovskiy says she reminds him of strength and sexiness, so he wanted to pad that into their final performance. Dancing to “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago, the pair began their number in a cage before exploding into a ferocious tango worthy of Broadway. Bad break for Windey, though; she looked like tripped when the number ended. But you should have seen when the ensemble of men thrust her up into the air! “You are so impressive tonight because something has definitely shifted,” said Inaba. “I’m proud of you for making this journey.” Perfect Score

Before declaring the winner, host Tyra Banks declared the finale received the most votes this season. (If only we knew how many of you actually watched).

Fourth place went to Shangela and Savchenko. Bummer.

Third place went to Brady and Carson.

Second place went to Windey and Chmerkovskiy.

And in the most anticlimactic finish ever, D’Amelio and Ballas win!

Things we learned from season 31: No one cares if two men dance together. Fans still want to see the show create celebrity dancers, not celebrate trained ones. Three seasons of Tyra Banks is plenty, thank you very much. TV can never replace a guy like Len Goodman. And Conrad Green should never leave his role as executive producer ever again.

Until next season, ballroom fans?

Chris Hemsworth's Taking an Acting Break, and Maybe a Permanent Thor Break - Gizmodo

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has managed to catapult several actors to stardom, and Chris Hemsworth is one of its best poster boys. Previously best known for playing Kirk’s dad in the opening minutes of Star Trek’s 2009 reboot, the first Thor movie from 2011 supercharged his career like a bolt of lightning, to the point where he’s got a new action franchise in the form of Netflix’s Extraction and the recent Disney+ series, Limitless.

Limitless recently premiered, and it’s during the fourth episode that Hemsworth learned he has a “strong” genetic pre-disposition to develop Alzheimer’s disease as he gets older. Both of his parents have the APOE4 gene, which is said to lead to an increased risk of the memory-losing disease. As a result, he’s announced a brief retirement from acting to spend time with his wife Elsa Pataky and their three kids.

“It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off,” said Hemswort to Vanity Fair. “And since we finished the show, I’ve been completing the things I was already contracted to do. [...] I’m going home and I’m going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife.” Learning of his potential health-related future is surprisingly candid, and despite Disney’s offer to omit those scenes, he chose to keep them in. “My concern was I just didn’t want to manipulate it and overdramatize it and make it into some sort of hokey grab at empathy or whatever for entertainment.”

Even with this brief retirement, Hemsworth took time to acknowledge the possibility of coming back to be Thor in the future. After giving the stock “I’m open to it if there’s more” response, he was more specific in saying that he’d be fine if that possible Thor 5 would serve as his last one. “We’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that,” he said. “I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know—am I at that stage? Who knows?”

One of his future roles is in George Miller’s Furiosa, a prequel film for the acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road film. His comments on working with Miller, who he described as “a genius, but not the mad type,” are perhaps a little illuminating for what the Australian wants to do for the rest of his acting career. “I said to my agent, ‘That’s where I want to spend my work hours; with someone who is kind and collaborative and interesting.’ [...] One that is very aware of how his energy affects others...and chooses for it to be a positive experience. The whole crew, everyone is in a better mood. It baffles me that some people in that position don’t understand that.”
