Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first podcast episode featured audio diaries from star-studded names like Sir Elton John, Stacey Abrams and Tyler Perry, but the real surprise was a cameo by their 17-month-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
At the end of the 33-minute episode released by Spotify’s Archewell Audio, the couple introduce their son and invite him to talk.
“You can speak into it,” says Prince Harry, directing Archie to the microphone.
“Archie, is it fun?” Markle asks as Archie repeats after her and says, “Fun.”
The couple continues the game of repetition with their tot, getting him to let out a cute “Happy New Year” word by word.
After me,” the Duke of Sussex says, “Ready? Happy …”
“Happy …” Archie repeats.
“New … ” the duke and duchess say.
“New … Year,” Archie finishes, all by himself.
The holiday special featured inspirational figures reflecting on their difficult year in light of the pandemic and revealing their wishes for 2021.
“We were curious to hear what they’d reflect on when they had a moment to themselves … without navigating the sometimes awkward dance of a video chat,” Harry said. “Meaning, no one having to say ‘you’re on mute’ over and over again — which is probably one of the defining phrases of 2020.”
